Dress & ________

THE POLITICS OF WHAT WE WEAR
A survey of the ways in which dress overlaps with issues of politics, culture and identity, "Dress & _____" serves as an overview for students curious about a side of fashion history that exists largely outside of designers and couture: the history of everyday people using the power of dress to resist, revolt and inspire change.
Students are presented with a choose-your-own-adventure presentation where they can fill in the blanks with the topics that interest them most –from gender & sexuality to class & colonialism– thus choosing the pace and structure of the lecture itself. Discussion & questions are welcome and prompted throughout the presentation, making it interactive, engaging and flexible time-wise.
