A CRASH COURSE IN AMERICAN FASHION OF THE 20TH CENTURY
For the aspiring vintage collectors & sellers, those who are thrift-curious, or anyone wanting to brush up on their fashion history, Vintage 101 is a hands-on introduction to the wonderful world of hunting for vintage in the wild and the trends that define each decde.
Students will learn a number of garment construction & manufacturing histories –from US union labels & RN numbers, to the evolution of zippers– all of which aid in determining the age of a garment. From there, students will be taken through a survey of 20th century American fashion and the historical contexts and iconic trends that created the silhouettes we still see today. All the while, students will have the chance to interact with authentic garments from each time period and see first-hand the differences in construction and silhouette as we progress through the 1900s.
